Test debut in the offing for Prithvi Shaw; KL Rahul, R Ashwin may sit out

SOUTHAMPTON: Things are happening fast for Prithvi Shaw, the under-19 skipper who led India to the colts’ World Cup triumph earlier this year. With India having lost the series and opener KL Rahul being a major disappointment, indications are Shaw may make his Test debut at the Oval.

Rahul has played four consecutive Test matches and looked extremely vulnerable against the in-coming ball. Though he has been superb at second slip, the team management may just run out of patience after a string of poor scores, paving the way for Shaw’s entry into the playing XI.

The 18-year-old joined the Indian team before the fourth Test in Southampton and has been having regular net sessions on the sidelines of the game at Ageas Bowl. Shaw has played just 14 first class matches.

Injured Ashwin may sit out too

Offie R Ashwin managed to get fit for the fourth Test after suffering a groin injury at Trent Bridge, but he seemed to have injured himself again while batting on Sunday.

Through the fourth Test, Ashwin looked a little off physically and Ravindra Jadeja may finally get a look-in.
